A community vote was conducted last year to choose the book for The Big Read in 2009. The winner was The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. Community programming is currently being planned for next spring's The Big Read.
Local sponsors of The Big Read are ABC 30, K-Jewel 99.3 FM and KYNO 1300 AM.
Scheduled programming at this time includes:

Local celebrities and community volunteers will participate in a continuous 24-hour reading of the book at Sweet River Grill in Clovis.

All ages are invited to a family day of good, old-fashioned fun and games along the banks of the San Joaquin River at the Coke Hallowell River Center.
Jim Schlievert Presents "An Evening with Mark Twain"April 3, 2009
Enjoy humorous and witty insights on daily life and heartfelt wisdom on some of humankind's most universal truths with California State University, Fresno alumnus Schlievert.
World Premiere Theatrical Production of "Tom, Huck and Mark" by Terrance V. McArthur
April 10-11, 2009 Directed by S. Eric Day, managing director of the Woodward Shakespeare Festival.
Many more programs featuring book and film discussions, film screenings, film storytelling, musical performances, crafts, cave programs and lectures on Mark Twain are in development. A complete program calendar will be available in February 2009.
